Spell it right

Here’s a trick to remember how to spell new words.

It is called the LOOK – THINK – COVER – WRITE – CHECK method.
  1. LOOK carefully at the new word. How can you break it into smaller bits? Do any of the smaller bits remind you of the patterns of letters from other words?
  2. THINK about the parts of the words which might cause problems - double letters for instance, or a vowel that isn't pronounced as you would expect.
  3. COVER the word and close your eyes. Try to see it in your mind's eye.
  4. WRITE the word down without looking back.
  5. CHECK to see if you're right. If not, look carefully at where you went wrong and try again.
More details can be found at this website http://www.spelling.hemscott.net/mem1.html

Give it a try and aim to score full marks for the SA2 spelling.

Good luck.

English - Composition Tips

Hi Children,

Welcome back! I hope you had a fruitful 4 days break by revising your work and by enjoying yourselves too.

You should now be geared up for SA2.

We have written a few compositions together. Here are a few things that I have noticed and would like you to remember:
  1. Write in the past tense where necessary.
  2. Write in 3 paragraphs (remember the two-finger spacing at the start of each paragraph):
i). Introduction (Setting – the time and place)
ii). Body (What were the characters doing, how did they feel, what would they do next?)
    iii). Ending/Conclusion
  3. Keep your sentences short to minimise grammatical and spelling errors.
  4. Use the correct punctuation (. , ! ?)
  5. Please write neatly.
  6. Leave a line in between your sentences.
  7. Once your story is completed, please read it again and correct any errors that you spot.

All the best for your SA2.
